Diversity Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEI&A) Ambassador Certificate
The Diversity Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEI&A) Ambassador Certificate program maintains the goal of creating a highly productive, agile, safe, and engaged workforce. At the conclusion of the program, participants in their cohorts will be able to:
-Assess the historic issues of privilege, discrimination, disparities, and their effects on individuals, societies, and businesses
-Prepare written and oral communications that mitigate implicit bias, microaggressions, exclusivity, and cultural differences
-Present a foundation for cultural diversity in the 21st century
-Select and use models and tools for effective conflict resolution
-Create inclusive organizational cultures that minimize protective silos
-Assess organizations for cultural diversity and develop programs to improve outcomes and resolve conflict
-Construct and maintain collaborative teams working across boundaries building increased capacity
For any relationship or project to be successful there must be collaboration among the parties. In that spirit, the DEI&A Certificate recognizes the importance of collaborative relationships, starting in the classroom and extending into organizational life. Collaboration increases the chance that the real causes of problems will be identified; that the plans to remedy the problems will be successful and will fit in the culture of the organization; that solutions are long lasting; and finally, continuous learning and improvement are an integral part of the organization, promoting sustainability.
*All courses include synchronous lectures, facilitated discussions, presentations and reflective analysis responses which are essential for effective cross-cultural communication.
This DEI&A Ambassadors program includes the following modules (total of 18 credits):
The Power of Diversity (6 credits) course, which includes exploration of the primary and secondary dimensions of diversity, microaggressions and victimization traits that can lead to exclusion; comprehension of the relationship between equity, inclusion, productivity and organizational success; introduction to cross-cultural conflict strategies; learning how to create a supportive and inclusive climate; and finally creating a specific action plan for organizational change.
The Implicit Bias (4 credits) course, which includes recognizing the importance and impact of implicit and explicit bias, the identification and realization of one’s biases and management of biases so they do not affect behavior in the workplace.
The Conflict Management and Diversity Leadership (6 credits) course, which includes evaluation of communication styles, context, and their relationship to conflict; identification and creation of conflict resolution models and strategies; facilitation of organizational conflict by engaging mediation strategies; construction, evaluation, and use a “toolbox” of skills and tools to achieve cross cultural conflict resolution goals; and finally, exploration of the issues of culture, technology and power in the management of conflict.
